To honor September’s healthy aging month, the girls at Spa One wanted to put together some of their best tips for aging beautifully. People eat healthy and work out regularly to keep their heart and body healthy but what do you do to keep your skin happy and healthy? Whether you’re in your 20’s, 40’s, 50’s or even 70’s, it’s important to take steps to protect your skin to ensure you age gracefully!
Vanessa is our certified lash addict at Spa One so we knew her tip was going to be lash related. “What most people don’t know is that your daily beauty routine is what could be causing your thin, stubby lashes.” For example, if you are sleeping with your mascara on or if you try and comb through dried mascara clumps, you could be doing serious damage to your lashes which can cause them to break off and thin out. Additionally, if you rub your eyes a lot that could be the culprit to thin, short lashes. “To help maintain strong, healthy lashes I would tell my clients to invest in a good eye makeup remover like the oil-free, Xtreme makeup remover which is safe for natural lashes as well as ladies with Xtreme lashes. If you have natural lashes, you can also prevent damage by conditioning them on a regular basis. After you wash your face at night, try applying a tiny dab of vaseline on your lids to help them stay healthy and strong.
What’s better than healthy skin? Healthy makeup! Health-conscious, Amanda, loves keeping skin healthy by using Jane Iredale’s line of hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested mineral makeup. “You can have the most beautiful skin but if you are using toxic makeup, it can cause breakouts and clogged pores that leaves your skin irritated and red. Long term, it can result in scars and acne pits that you can never get rid of.” If you care at all about your skin than she would recommend investing in a high-quality makeup in addition to washing your makeup off every night. These two little tips will keep your skin looking healthy and youthful for years to come.
On the hunt for the fountain of youth? Christine says it’s easier to find than you think. “Just keep up with your regular skincare treatments and you will be amazed at how young and rejuvenated your skin will look and feel. My best piece of advice for people who want to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay is to see your esthetician on a regular basis.” Microneedling has been revolutionary in terms of treating clients with a wide range of problems. By incorporating microneedling treatments with regular chemical peels and microdermabrasions you are going to look 10 years younger than you actually are!
“Having spent the last few years living in Arizona, I absolutely love the sun! The problem is that I hate what is does to my skin.” Brittany is super conscious of the sun’s harmful effects and knows it’s the number one factor for making someone look older than they actually are. Wrinkles, sun spots, cancers; they are all caused by the sun which is why Brittany’s tip is all about protecting your skin from the sun. “I love wide brimmed hats, big sunglasses and lots and lots of sunscreen. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what type of skin you have, make sure to apply and then reapply sunscreen!”
Joni is a workout junkie so obviously her tip is going to be exercise-related. “I think working out is the key to better health and ultimately, just feeling better about yourself.” Even if you just get outside and walk a mile or so a couple nights a week you are going to feel like you have so much more energy! “I also love stretching and think that is a major factor in keeping your body feeling flexible and young!”
“I can’t say enough that using high-quality product that is specific to your skincare needs is imperative to maintaining a youthful, rejuvenated appearance.” Alex has very dry skin and raves about SkinMedica’s HA5 which is designed to replenish skin’s own hyaluronic acid. “This product is as good as gold. It provides immediate smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles and promotes overall skin health for all different age groups. It’s a must-have on my list!”
