This 90+ degree weather doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and us ladies at Spa One know the toll it has been taking on our skin. Whether it’s clogged pores, sunburns or makeup melting down your face we feel your pain, which is why we wanted to compile some of our best tips and favorite tricks for maintaining that beautiful summer glow, no matter how hot it gets!
In terms of skincare, it’s essential that you create a consistent regime that is inclusive of facial treatments as well as products that are customized to address your needs.
Marika says “microneedling is my go to skincare treatment for anyone with large pores, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. In the summertime, my clients may notice that their lines deepen from being in the sun or their pores can be larger and more clogged due to excess oil and dirt on their skin. Microneedling is performed once a month over the course of 3 months to help treat these problems. Additionally, I would recommend peppering in regular skin brightening peels which will help to exfoliate dead skin cells and keep skin feeling refreshed.”
To compliment your regular skincare treatments, Marika recommends investing in some high-quality product as well. “While I’m a huge advocate for daily sunscreen use it’s even more important in the summer. I love SkinMedica’s Total Defense and Repair and no matter your age or skin type, this sunscreen is the number one product for protecting your skin from sun damage and wrinkles. Most people also experience excess oil on their skin which is normal in the summertime, I would recommend using a good toner to help balance out skin’s pH. One of my favorites is Clenziderm Pore Therapy toner which is great for oily and acne-prone skin.”
Having flawless skin is great and all but what good does it do you if you have makeup melting down your face and eyeliner smudged across your forehead? Amanda is an expert at perfecting the “just left the beach” glow which is why she wanted to share some of her tips for creating and maintaining the perfect sun-kissed look all day long.
Amanda says, “the key is to start with a good base. Opting for oil-free moisturizers and foundations coupled with a stellar primer like Jane Iredale’s Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener is the perfect starting point for creating a long-lasting look. Next, I would recommend applying a powder bronzer to the high points of your face; think forehead, cheekbones, and nose. I would also opt for a waterproof eyeliner and mascara to help keep things in place if you sweat a lot or are spending your day at the pool or beach. One of my favorites is the Xtreme brand eyeliner. It has this fabulous creamy texture that sets after only 20 seconds and it’s totally smudge proof.”
In the summer, Amanda fully embraces the mantra “less is more.” She says, “try and stick with light pink lip glosses that add a bit of shimmer and light or bright colored eye shadows to help make your eyes really pop! If worse comes to worse, keep some oil blotting sheets in your purse. They are great for little touch ups or if you need to transition your look from day to night without having the chance to reapply your makeup.”
