Many regular people want to look like celebrities and will go to often ridiculous measures to get there. Right now, women want Kylie Jenner’s lips and they’re using a shot glass to get them. That’s right, a shot glass that they put to their lips and suck on (all the while posting the process to social media and tagging it #KylieJennerChallenge). And then, voila, they’re a Kylie Jenner doppelganger. Or the glass breaks and they end up cut and bleeding.
Sounds sexy, huh?
Kylie herself is not condoning this method. In fact, she took to Twitter and encouraged young girls to be themselves (thin lips and all, we presume).
Medical experts across the country are discouraging anyone from taking the “challenge.” Numerous photos on Instagram and Twitter show kids bruised and/or cut thanks to a broken glass.
“The dangers of this trend are significant and can range from minor trauma to the lips to significant injuries of the lips, mouth and digestive track,” says Dr. Jeffrey Rockmore, a surgeon at the Plastic Surgery Group in Albany. “If the shot glass were to break, there is a risk of lacerations of the lips, tongue or ingestion of pieces of glass. Any laceration of the lip area can create permanent scarring.”
So how can you safely make your lips look bigger?
Dust lips with a translucent powder to give the lip liner something to stick to, as we will be embellishing with color.
Apply a lip plumper product to smooth out the skin and add fullness. If you’re using the Sugar & Butter product, you can use the Butter side.
Use a colored lip liner that is close to your natural lip color to embellish the top and bottom lip line. When doing this, draw just above your natural lip line which will make them look fuller. A great option is Spice from Jane Iredale, but your favorite products will work.
Fill in the rest of your lips with the liner.
Apply a desired color of lipstick or gloss to add shine.
Use a highlighter pencil to lightly trace around the lips to subtly draw attention to them.
