Vanessa Torres, a certified makeup artist at Spa One at The Plastic Surgery Group takes us through the steps of creating a creepy Halloween look.

Step 1: Create a Base

Starting with a solid base for your makeup application is the most important step in achieving a perfect skeleton look. I recommend using Halloween white makeup to blend over your entire face or just the lower portion depending on the look you have chosen.

You can buy this from any type of Halloween store for $4 or $5 and use a regular powder brush to apply.

Be sure to set the white areas with a white setting powder. This will help to ensure the longevity of your application and it also makes drawing on any detailed black or colored lines much easier so they appear smooth and sharp.

Step 2: Contour!

Contour, contour, contour! Contouring the hollows of your cheeks using a blush or contour brush is the next step to skeletal perfection. To do this, blend black Halloween cream makeup in a circular motion under your cheekbones extending to your hairline as well as on your jawline to enhance the natural hollowness in those areas.

If you want to have your entire face hollowed all you need to do is continue blending the black makeup around your temples and the top of your forehead to achieve a more dramatic skeleton look.

Step 3: Create a Mouth and Define the Nose

Using a black liner, either liquid, pencil or a cream black halloween makeup with a detail brush, map out the perimeter of your design for the teeth and nose.

For the teeth, you want to draw a black line starting at the bow of your lip and then draw a straight line down to the bottom lip, or however far down you want depending on the size you want your teeth to be. Next, draw two lines arching up from the corner of your mouth to about the cheekbone. Ensure the two lines are even and then draw more black lines across your mouth to map out your new skeleton teeth. Feel free to make them as big as you’d like.

Once you have your outline you will want to get a small flat concealer brush to paint inside the lines using your Halloween white makeup. Once completed you will have a new perfect skeleton smile!

The nose is quite simple. You will want to use the same black liner to draw on a small, yet sharp, triangular shape which outlines the lower portion of your actual nose. Then use your Halloween black makeup and a contour brush to fill in the middle of your new nose.

Step 4: Eyes

The eyes are relatively easy to create and you can have fun with this part depending on the look you are trying to achieve.

One way to create your eyes is to use a sharp black liner to draw two circles, one around each eye. Then using your black halloween cream, you will want to blend in the entire eye socket so it is hollowed out.

Another option you can go for, which is less scary, is to create a smoky eye using black eyeshadow, eyeliner and glitter, along with a dark mascara. Be sure to blend in the shadow on your upper eyelid and line the bottom just under the lash line. You can then use black or purple glitter to dab over the shadow. Finish with mascara.
