Your wedding day is no doubt one of the most special days of your life. It’s something most of us have been thinking about since the time we were 5 and if you’re anything like me you have a secret Pinterest board with thousands of pins all dedicated to that glorious 5 hour event that you’ve been planning your whole life.
While the date, venue, and first dance song are probably things you have been thinking about for a while, one of the more “last minute” decisions I see brides make is in relation to their makeup. Your makeup is so important, just think about those photos that you will have for the rest of your life. The last thing you want is to think about how you look like a clown every time you walk passed your wedding photo hanging on the wall.
So whether you want a soft, natural look or something edgy and chic, I wanted to share some of my best tips to help you find the perfect makeup artist for your big day!
Reviews and recommendations have a huge impact on a person’s decision making process. In fact, most of us today spend a significant amount of time reading reviews before making most major purchases and investing in a makeup artist shouldn’t be any different. If you can’t find any reviews of the makeup artist or salon on their website or social media channels, I would recommend asking directly to speak with other brides who have used them in the past. I’m always happy to connect my brides-to-be with my current clients so they can have some 1:1 time with women who can share their own personal experiences working with me. In addition to speaking with and reading what other woman have to say, don’t be afraid to ask the makeup artist for pictures of their work. Seeing examples of the work that they do will allow you to get a better feel for their technique. I always like to spend a good amount of time with my clients reviewing photos during the initial consultation. This allows the client to point out examples of work that they like and don’t like so I will have a better understanding of what their needs are for their wedding day.
Schedule a trial run
The trial run is essential to making sure you love your look on your wedding day. By the time you have scheduled your trial run, I would have met with you for your initial consultation and spent a lot of time discussing the look you want to achieve. Bring plenty of photos of celebrities or other brides who you admire. This will give your makeup artist something to base her design off of. During the trial, never be afraid to tell the artist if you don’t like something! This is the time to test out looks, try new colors and establish what techniques you like and don’t like.
Have a connection
Having a connection with the makeup artist is one of the most important things to consider when choosing who you work with. Remember, you will be spending a good chunk of your day with this person so you want to make sure you can be open and honest with them. That trust factor is critical and I would never want one of my brides to feel judged or like they couldn’t tell me something.
I love working with brides and bridal parties. Every wedding I am invited to be a part of is such a memorable moment for me. Getting to celebrate and be a part of someone’s special day is something that I take great pride in and it always puts a smile on my face.
