Areola and scar camouflage tattoos are done in the same way other tattoos are done by implanting ink under the skin permanently with tiny needles.

Typically, breast tattooing occurs post-mastectomy and reconstruction.

Most women that have breast tattooing post-mastectomy and reconstruction experience little to no pain during the tattoo process.

An areola tattoo will require two visits one month apart. We discuss color, size, and placement during your first tattoo session and draw an outline with marker before getting started. This will help you to envision your tattoo. You won’t be able to submerge your tattoo in water for two weeks, so you may want to plan this appointment accordingly. This means no swimming or soaking in a pool or tub during the healing process. Standard showers are fine, and after-care instructions are provided at the time of your visit.
