Summer Safe Skincare Treatments

You may want to show off your skin in the summertime, but that can get tough when you also need to contend with that extra-strong sun. Nobody’s perfect when it comes to rigorous sunscreen application, with many of us ending up with sun damage like:

  • Sunspots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Uneven texture
  • Inconsistent tone

Simple Skincare Treatments

Spa One at the Plastic Surgery Group in Albany offers multiple quick, minimal-downtime cosmetic procedures to remedy these troublesome blemishes. Our experienced aesthetic team will examine your symptoms to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your concerns. Some of the techniques we frequently use for sun damage repair include:

Facials

For minor fixes regarding tone and clogged pores, many of our patients elect to receive our medical-grade facials. These treatments may also come with a facial massage and mask therapy.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are similar to facials but with the added benefit of “peeling” off the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). The body quickly grows back a new glowing and smooth epidermis clear of sun damage. There are different strengths of chemical peels depending on your symptoms, with some not requiring any recovery and others necessitating a few days of healing.

Dermaplaning

During a dermaplaning session, a surgical blade is used to remove dead skin cells for a brighter, smoother complexion. It also has the benefit of removing “peach fuzz,” if requested. No downtime is necessary.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is the process of polishing the skin to exfoliate the epidermis and stimulate new collagen production. After your session, you may experience some pinkness and a very minor burning sensation, but these should clear up in about 24 hours. Microdermabrasion is often combined with a chemical peel.

HydraFacial MD®

During this procedure, an esthetician uses water for microdermabrasion, in a technique called hydra-dermabrasion. During HydraFacial MD® appointments at Spa One, the skin is cleansed, impurities are extracted, and then the skin is hydrated. We’ll also customize your treatment with special booster serums! No downtime is usually required, apart from abstaining from certain other skincare products as directed by our staff.

Microneedling

Microneedling procedures involve utilizing tiny, sterilized needles to trigger the body’s wound-healing response in targeted areas, such as sunspots or hyperpigmentation. We also offer Vivace® RF Microneedling, which combines microneedling with the power of radiofrequency energy for even more dramatic results. Recovery time is typically no more than a couple of days, if not faster.

What Can I Do On My Own to Protect My Skin From The Sun?

In between Spa One sessions, there are plenty of steps you can take to keep your skin looking fabulous this summer. First, keep applying and reapplying that sunscreen — make sure it’s broad-spectrum, water-resistant, and SPF 30 or higher. If you don’t need to be in a bathing suit, try wearing long, loose-fitting shirts and pants, as well as a wide-brimmed hat.

Lastly, avoid the sun when it’s at its strongest, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This is especially important if you start to notice redness or burning.
